Diversity

Stanford University Medical Center believes that a fellowship program that is composed of individuals who are both highly qualified and diverse in terms of culture, gender, race, ethnicity, background, work and life experiences, skill, and interests is essential to the postgraduate education of physicians. Because of its strong belief in the value of diversity, The SUMC Training Program especially encourages applications from African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaskan Natives and Pacific Islanders, as well as from others whose backgrounds and experience provide additional dimensions that will enhance the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Training Program.

Eligibility

  • Stanford Hospital and Clinics uses the J-1 visa program sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • J-1 visa holders are eligible for our Clinical Fellowship but not the Research Fellowship, due to restrictions imposed on funding eligibility by the NIH. To be eligible to apply to the Research Fellowship one needs to be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Stanford does not sponsor H-1B visas for graduates of international medical schools.
  • Graduates of Canadian medical schools must also use the J-1 program.
  • Incoming and continuing J-1 visa house staff are required to obtain their J-1 visas before their training. Failure to submit the requested documentation will result in a delayed start date.
  • Outgoing J-1 house staff are required to complete mandatory tasks in the Exiting House Staff Checklist.
